All-Ireland Champion
Congratulations to Dan Downey, who was crowned All-Ireland Schools Combined Events Championon Saturday, November 8th.
Dan competed in the pentathlon, an event made up of five disciplines: shot putt (5kg), 60m hurdles, 200m, long jump and 800m.
It was an outstanding day of performances, with Dan achieving the following results:
• Shot putt – 13.26m (personal best)
• 60m hurdles – 8.36s
• 200m – 22.88s
• Long jump – 6.28m
• 800m – 2:00.32
• Total: 3,784 points
After opening with a personal best in the shot putt, Dan moved into second place before taking the lead with excellent performances in the hurdles and 200m. He maintained his lead through the remaining events to become the All-Ireland Schools Combined Events Champion.
Dan will now represent Ireland at the SIAB Schools International Pentathlon in Glasgow on December 6th, competing against athletes from England, Scotland and Wales.
