Back to back wins tonight in the first round of the Laois Debate Cup. A huge congratulations to all involved.
Up first were our 5th Year Debating team; Captain Andrew Coyne, Jack Heffernan, Joshua Corbett and Tom Delaney. The boys faced a strong Coláiste Íosagáin side but the judges unanimously decided that victory belonged to the CBS, as we opposed the motion That this house believes that it is users, rather than platforms, that must take responsibility for the harmful effects of social media’’.
Next were our seasoned 6th Year Debaters; Captain Adam Raji, Kyle John, David Finnegan and Jack Murrell who were up against an experienced Portlaoise College side. The boys presented compelling arguments as they vehemently opposed the motion That this house believes that AI will replace teachers. St. Mary’s CBS were unanimous victors once more.
Both teams were complimented on their poise, humour, intellect and convincing arguments. They now progress to the next round in January. Well done all, you represented our school fantastically in what was a very enjoyable evening.
