Our Junior Rugby team took on St. Mels College on Thursday in their quarter final. ️ St. Mels were quicker off the mark with a try from their scrum half after a good chip and chase within the first 5 minutes, but he couldn’t convert his own try.
As the CBS got more into the game the trys started to flow, our first came from no.8 Shane Foley as he powered straight through the St.Mels defender to crash over, with the conversion just gone wide, the game was level at 5-5. That wasn’t the story for long though, with centre Danny Gavin at the end of a good move to take the lead for the Brothers, unable to convert our second try we led at half time 10-5. ️ The boys came out rearing to go again in the second half with big hits from Finn Darcy and Bill Rigney rattling the St.Mels players and they couldn’t cope with the strong carries from Shane Foley, Daragh Lalor and Eoghan Deegan. ️It would be a brilliant line break from the ball out quickly from the ruck let Dan Murrell slide into the corner to put them 10 points ahead. Finn Darcy, with his persistence throughout the game, broke the line again, but was tackled just short of the line, then Shane Foley picked the ball out quick and scored for his second try of the match. Our subs had a big impact to help close out the game with Mark Fennell, Joe Larkin, and Alex Walsh having big presences in the match. It wasn’t the end of the CBS scoring though, with David Timmons dodging and weaving through defenders before tapping the ball down and Joe Larkin splitting the posts with a perfect conversion. More subs rolled in with Jim Hanamy having immediate effect, receiving an offload and dancing between tackles before diving over the whitewash to end our great display. ️The score at full-time was 32-5, with MOTM having to be split between Danny Gavin and Daragh Lalor.
