Congratulations to Ms Buckley and the Amber Flag team for hosting an excellent Positive Mental Health week earlier in the month. €851 was raised for such a great mental health service in our local parish church. Pictures from the amazing events can be seen in our Gallery section on the website.
Monday March 6th– Great start to mental health week with our random acts of kindness day. All students and teachers received a mind your mind pack pictures below. Thanks to our friends in Mountmellick who gave them to us earlier this year.
Tuesday March 7th– Day 2 of mental health week was about exercise and healthy eating which help us to feel good and de-stress, along with boosting our self esteem. Ben from Portlaoise Leisure Centre was in to talk to our 2nd and 5th Years. Thank you to Ben, who gave some great information about healthy living and mental health. Big thank you to Dunnes Stores and the Student Council who sponsored our free fruit as part of healthy eating day. Great to see local business getting behind our campaign.
Wednesday March 8th– Well done to all who took part in sound of CBS. Part 2 will be at lunch tomorrow due to the number of contestants. Thank you to our judge, Ms Quinlan- prize €50 one for all voucher.
Thursday March 9th– Thursday was a relaxation day with Mindfulness Ireland holding mindfulness sessions with our students and of course, our annual Masterchef CBS. Thank you to our judges Mr Dooley and Ms Murphy- prize €50 one for all voucher. There were so many tasty recipes and all so healthy. Mr Cahillane made a flavoursome Arroz con Pollo rice, Murdo made a sweet and sour stir fry with home made sauce, Aaron Lynott made an impressive mushroom and chicken vol au vent, Dylan and Adam made Mary Berry’s lemon drizzle cake which disappeared as soon as it was served. Tom made a hearty spaghetti stir fry and Dara made absolutely delicious anti cholesterol cookies. Such tough competition poor Ms Murphy and Mr Dooley have a tough decision to make.
Friday March 10th– Friday was our walk of Slievenamon for GROW Midlands. Well done to everyone who took part on the walk. Such a enjoyable day incorporating so many simple ways we can all look after our mental health – exercise, fresh air, socialising, trying something new, overcoming a challenge, supporting each other, talking and making new friends. Fantastic end to Positive Mental Health Week 2017.
A final thank you to all teachers who supported all of the activities.
