Understanding ADHD in Children

ADHD is one of the most widely discussed yet often misunderstood conditions in childhood. This webinar will give you the tools and insights you need to see ADHD from the inside out – and to support children in a more informed and compassionate way.

In this powerful session, you will:

Fully understand the lived experience of ADHD and how it affects children physically, psychologically, socially and academically
Learn what leads to challenges in learning, behaviour and emotional wellbeing
Discover practical strategies to make a lasting and meaningful difference to a child with ADHD

Why it matters:

In Ireland, 1 in 20 children live with ADHD. Almost one-third of referrals to CAMHS are for ADHD, and many children also experience anxiety, depression and bullying alongside their diagnosis. With the right support, however, children with ADHD can build confidence, resilience and flourish academically and socially.

What’s included:
Live 1-hour webinar (recording available)
Certificate of Attendance
Worksheets and summary slides
️ Lifetime access to all materials

ADHD & Mental Health: Ireland Statistics

  • ADHD is estimated to occur in 3-5% of children and adolescents in Ireland.

  • About 1 in 20 children/adolescents in Ireland have ADHD.

  • Among those referred to Ireland’s Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS), one-third have a diagnosis of ADHD.

  • 5-7% of children have ADHD (per the HSE Model of Care summary) in Ireland.

  • The Health Service Executive (HSE) reports that nearly 8,000 children were prescribed ADHD medication in the first part of 2024 (Jan–Aug period) in Ireland, reflecting increased recognition.

  • Boys are diagnosed with ADHD at significantly higher rates than girls in Ireland.

  • Comorbidity: Many children with ADHD in Ireland also experience co‐occurring mental health conditions, particularly anxiety and depression.

  • Service pressures: There has been a surge in ADHD diagnoses among children, which has resulted in large waiting lists for mental health services (CAMHS). In some HSE regions, a majority of referrals in certain CAMHS teams are for ADHD assessments/treatment.
